In 1914 Edwin Owen Folsom started supplying the Penobscot Chemical Fiber Co. mill in Old Town, Maine with mortar sand for their new kraft mill, delivering one load at a time with a horse and cart.  Once he was old enough Edwin’s son, Owen R. Folsom, helped his father with the business.  The business slowly expanded over the years and in 1959 Owen J. Folsom started his career in the business, tilling the loam fields.  

In 1967 with the early passing of Owen R., his wife Florence Watson Folsom and Owen J. ran the company together.  Under their management the business grew into supplying sand, gravel, and site work.  In 1974 the company was incorporated and was renamed Owen J. Folsom, Incorporated.  With the company now supplying sand, stone, and gravel.  In 1992 they added ready-mix concrete to the companies’ offerings.

In 2010, Owen J. Folsom, Inc. expanded their service into Hancock County by opening up a second concrete plant in Ellsworth, Maine.  Owen J. Folsom, Inc. celebrated it’s 100 year anniversary in 2014. Then in 2016 Owen J. Folsom, Inc. expanded their services again into the Waldo and Knox Counties with the opening of the Searsport concrete plant. 

In 2020, Owen J. Folsom, Inc. expanded their services once again by purchasing a concrete plant in Hancock, Maine. In 2021, Owen J. Folsom, Inc. purchased a concrete plant in Lincoln, ME to supply concrete to more customers! Owen J. Folsom Inc. looks forward to being a member of the Penobscot, Hancock, Waldo, and Knox County communities for years to come.
